What Made Them Famous

What exactly made a fashion designer famous? They couldn’t just pop out of nowhere. There must have been something that show their true potential and made them blow up into what they are today. So I decided to take a few designers a take a look at what made them famous and why it did.

Coco Chanel – The reason Miss Chanel became one of the most influential people in fashion designers, she freed women everywhere from their uncomfortable clothes, but also showing sophistication and elegance. What design made this come through the most you ask? It was the classic Chanel suit. The suit consisted of a knee length skirt, a trimmed boxy jacket that was made mostly of black wool and had gold buttons. This was all accessorized with the necessary large pearl necklace.

Louis Vuitton – In the late 19th century he was originally known for his renowned trunks and luggage. He worked with were aristocrats and therefore they must be well made. The luggage that made him famous also brought new product lines which we know of today.

Zac Posen – Worked his way up from working with Anne Klein at only 16 years old to hitting it big when Naomi Campbell wore his dress. He truly shoes how self promoting your designs can make or break a designer in a very tough industry.

Yves Saint Laurent – Though this is not what he is most famous for, the trapeze dress is what made him gave him his claim to fame in the first place. While working for Christian Dior before the war he created this masterpiece, which is still around and influences the way we dress today.

Christian Dior – The line Corolle, also known as the “The New Look,” was what helped make Christian Dior. The look was known for its below-mid-calf length, large bust, and small waist. Less fabric was used because the expenses during the war, but this made it extremely popular among teenage girls and was also the reason for his fame.

Thomas Burberry – Perhaps two things defined Burberry and his claim to fame. One was the fabric that he invented in the late 19th century. This new fabric was waterproof, unlike anything else seen at that time. Along with the fabric, during the war Burberry was commissioned to create the trench coat for officers, but this became a world wide trend which we still see today.

This is only a few designers and what made them famous, but I hoped you learned a little! As you can see the designs things that made them famous are still around today. So it goes to show why they are what they are!

Fashion Favorites Of The Silver Screen

There is at least one movie where you can say “I love that dress,” well I am counting down and writing about my top 10 dresses, that I personally believe made an impact on fashion.

10. Marie Antoinette – Coronation Dress

We all know how lavish Marie Antoinette lived a lavish life; so it is no surprise when making a movie about her that everything must be over the top, and this includes her coronation dress. The detail and extravagance of this dress is why I place it in my top ten.

9. Wizard of Oz – Dorothy’s Blue Dress

Everyone knows it! It is a must, which always needs a pair of red glittery shoes to go with. The cute dress has lasted the test of time and will always be remembered.

8. Ever After – White Angel Dress

The dress is so beautiful that the once used as a wedding dress was now used as a dress for an Angel. Though in the movie lots of fighting and even stealing of the dress occurred, it finally ended up on the rightful person Danielle De Barbarac, also known as Cinderella.

7. She’s The Man – Versace White Dress

The dress was worn by Viola (Amanda Bynes) during a lunch in. Viola was dresses much different than any other person at the lunch, but still managed to look extremely stylish and ladylike, rather than her usual soccer gear.

6. Titanic – Burgundy Dress “Jump Dress”

The biggest grossing movie of all time, there must be good costumes. Besides being an extraordinary dress, it was made famous because of Rose almost jumping off the ship in it. So I had to put this on because of my love for Titanic and it being pretty famous.

5. Beauty and The Beast – Yellow Ball Dress

I don’t thing there is one girl out there who saw Beauty and the Beast that didn’t want that dress. It is the perfect princess dress. I know I even had it for my Halloween costume one year, so why wouldn’t I put it up as one of my favorite dresses.

4. Atonement – Green Dress

It was the officially voted the number one costume in a movie ever. Well I didn’t think it was number one, but it did make my list at number four, because the dress is pretty marvelous, and I won’t lie I would kill for to have it.

3. Anastasia – Blue Opera Dress

I don’t believe this one is on very many list, but I think it should be. I love and I wish it had this dress! Yes, it is a cartoon, but it is such an amazing dress and not to mention a really good movie.

2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Givenchy Black Dress

I could never have a list and not include Audrey Hepburn’s dress. It was iconic and changed the face of fashion. Along with diamonds and a long cigarette, you have the complete look of the star.

1. Seven Year Itch – White Dress

I don’t think there has been one person who does not know what this dress is. Marilyn Monroe made it famous and of course we all know the pose that goes along with it. It is know wonder that I made this famous dress number one on my list.
